Training Description

Monitoring for fidelity to a source message is of critical ethical importance to interpreters. This training teaches participants to identify factors that contribute to or detract from the interpreting process. They will learn to self-monitor their interpretation by using Think Aloud Protocol, Gile’s Effort Model, and the Gravitational Model for Language Availability (Shaw).

  • Friday – 08/10/12
  • Friday – 11/02/12
Bienville Building at the corner of North and 4th Streets, Room 118, in Baton Rouge. All meetings are scheduled to begin at 10am.

After several requests to fill the vacant Treasurer position were made to our membership and no interested volunteers - our current LRID Secretary, Jennifer Kuyrkendall, has also been appointed the Acting Treasurer until elections at the 2012 State Conference

2015 RID National Conference...

Already thinking about attending the 2015 RID National Conference??? Louisianians are in luck!!!
New Orleans has been chosen as the host city for this marvelous event August 6-13. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel that is currently scheduled to open in the fall of 2011.
This Hyatt is the largest and newest development in Hyatt history, and will be the first to include a nationally renowned Celebrity Chef Restaurant.


History

Incorporated in 1969, LRID is a state affiliate chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., to meet the needs of a professional organization of interpreters and transliterators within the state of Louisiana.

Purpose

LRID is a non-profit organization whose principle purposes are to:
  • Initiate, sponsor, promote, and execute policies and activities that will further the profession.
  • Provide professional development.
  • Maintain and promote a code of professional conduct.
  • Provide the public with information regarding the profession of interpreting
